The Midnight Library

Updated: Aug 12, 2021

An Intriguing Title for a Lover of Books...

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is a New York Times bestseller and, it's about books in a library. It's got to be good, right? My expectations were high! Overall, I thought it was a great book. I saw one review that said it was laborious, which at times, it was. Some writers put in just the right amount of detail without overdoing it. But there are some that will go on and on about something that isn't really interesting or necessary. I thought this author did pretty well in that regard but there were some things that were a little overdone. I also saw one reviewer say it had an element of science-fiction to it. I guess that's true, but I didn't think of it in that way at all while I was reading it.

I hate to give away too much of the plot of a book because then you're unable to let the story really unfold before you without any preconceived notions or expectations. So I'll just say that I thought the book had a really good message. It reminded me of the song "For Good" from the hit musical Wicked. I love the line in the song that says, "because I knew you, I have been changed for good." As I've traveled this summer and just lived my life, I've come across so many good, kind people and they each make an important impression on my life and heart. I think we all need to try a little harder to make our touch points with other peoples' lives as kind and positive as possible. The world definitely needs you and I, and it needs each of us to be the best version of ourselves, whatever that may be!
